Lowry Park Zoo

The Lowry Park Zoo is a nonprofit zoo located in the heart of Tampa, Florida. It is one of the city’s most famous sites, drawing in thousands upon thousands of visitors every year. It also serves as a conservation center for many endangered wildlife.

The Asian Gardens

The Asian Gardens is perhaps one of the zoo’s oldest sections. Previously known to the public as the Asian Domain, it was renovated and renamed in 2007. Perhaps one of the most noticeable parts of this particular zoo section is its use of a unique aesthetic to accentuate the theme of the exhibit. In particular, many visitors are enthralled by the use of pagodas in the design.
Of course, no one goes to the zoo to look at the architecture. The exhibit presents a wide array of wildlife from all corners of the vast Asian continent, from the Komodo dragon, Indian rhinoceros, Malayan tigers, to the clouded leopards and sloth bears. There are also Sulawesi and Indonesian aviaries in this section of the zoo which showcase different types of birds from the region.

Florida Wildlife Center

After seeing the exotic wildlife of Asia, visitors can then proceed to examine the local wildlife by visiting The Florida Wildlife Center. This exhibit showcases the many North American species as well as a few Central American species. This part of the zoo is rather vast, extending for more than half a mile.

It presents visitors with an up-close view of the Orinoco crocodiles, North American black bears, and the striped skunks. It also has a small pack of red wolves as well as alligator snapping turtles and West Indian manatees. The manatees serve as one of the highlights of the exhibit as it also includes a manatee education show. It explains the problems this specie has to face with the growing encroachment on their natural habitat.

Aside from that, it also has an aquatic center that lets visitors look at the different species of sharks, eels, and seahorses found in the North American region.

Primate World

Primate World serves as one of the facility’s main attractions. Perhaps one of the most architecturally astounding sections of the zoo, it is conveniently located in the center of the facility with its own system of waterfalls and waterways.

As expected, it presents visitors with a wide range of primate species from all over the world. Everything from the great apes to the tiny primates can be found in this exhibit. In particular, the zoo plays host to chimpanzees, Siamang gibbons, and the Bornean orangutans. Aside from that, there are also the black-and-white colobus monkeys of Angola as well as the ring-tailed lemurs and the golden lion tamarins.

There is certainly no shortage of things to do and sites to see in this particular Tampa attraction. With no less than 60 hectares of ground to cover, visitors certainly have a lot to cover. This article seeks to help you with that by presenting a couple of the notable sections of the Lowry Park Zoo.
